Opening a new Door

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

— Walt Disney.

Moving Down South

I graduated in May 2019 and needed a break from school. It had always been an escape for me, but it started to hurt my head. I decided to take a trip down south by about 1,300 miles or so to The Commons — which is one of the Disney College Program housing complexes. From there I joined a new world — Batuu.

It was definitely out of this world. Seeing the land for the first time made the hour transport from Galma every day worth it. Although leaving my Loth-cat never got easier.

I made some incredible friends from my times with the 3 suns and after. I hand-crafted an elemental lightsaber with a Violet Kyber Krystal (thank you Master Mace Windu), wandered around the Outpost, and tried to stay on Oga’s good side (if that’s even possible).

Why a purple lightsaber?

Purple is a blend of red and blue. For those of you who don’t know, in Star Wars, traditionally blue lightsabers were used by the Jedi, and red lightsabers were used by the Sith, so one could assume a purple lightsaber generally shared an affinity with both the Light and Dark sides of the Force.

From my encounters with the rebel “scum” and the first order, Chewy is my favorite to talk to!

Much love, Courtney.

On this day in history

1813: Jane Austin publishes Pride and Prejudice.

Lizzy’s rejection of Darcy’s first proposal was because while he admits to loving her, he also says many insulting things about her family and social position. Darcy makes clear “his sense of her inferiority, of its being a degradation, of the family obstacle, which judgment had always opposed to inclination.” He also seems confident that she will consider it an honor to marry him. These attitudes are offensive to Lizzy, because she does not think Darcy is inherently better than her.

I think we have a lot to learn from Lizzy.

1929: The Seeing Eye, America’s first school for training dogs to guide the blind, founded in Nashville, Tennessee.

All service dogs are truly incredible.

Who Am I?

Walt Disney once said, “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.”

If you couldn’t tell by that quote, I’m a big fan of Walt Disney and all he and his brother, Roy, started. It may have to do with the fact that I was raised in a Disney family. Not actually, but it has always been more of a home than a vacation. I spent my 5th birthday in Disney, lost my first tooth in Disney, and even got to work for the mouse himself. But that’s just a little about who I am.

I’ve always loved fairytales. The idea of an alternate reality where you can do the impossible.

In reality, I’m a 22 almost 23 year old with no idea what I’m doing. I graduated from undergrad almost a year ago (May 2019) and took a bit of a break for some me time or as some might say, I ran away to a land of Fantasy.

I went to Orlando to work for the mouse and had some pretty cool adventures along the way, but I truly believe the best is yet to come.

I guess we’ll see where this goes.

Much love, Courtney.
